FOR YOUR REFERENCE
GOAL: The goal of this program is to provide students with the opportunity to experimentally meet curriculum objectives for CTS modules of Environmental Stewardship, Forestry, Wildlife, and Human and Social Services. There will be 2-3 Wednesday night classes at St. Joe's High School. Students will spend a week at HeLa Ventures, a camp west of Rocky Mountain House (www.helaventures.com).

Cost: $675.00 - Includes meals, accommodations, transportation, instruction/guiding and all equipment.
This session is limited to 32 students, once the course has filled, students may be put on a wait list.

The credits offered are:
FOR 1010: FORESTS & SOCIETY - Students study the social, cultural, economic and environmental significance of forests, with particular focus on the impact of society as a whole and the impact individuals have had on forests.
FOR 1050: FOREST IMAGERY - Students interpret information from different types of visual data representations used in the forest industry.
FOR 1100: FOREST USE & PROTECTION - Students examine past and present uses of Canada’s forests, and explain how research and technology impact forest management.
ENS 1010: INTRODUCTION TO STEWARDSHIP - Students develop an understanding of the social, economic and political significance of environmental stewardship by creating a personal definition of environmental stewardship and examine the historical context of environmental stewardship.
ENS 1020: FOSTERING STEWARDSHIP - Students examine the management and conservation of the environment and local, provincial, national and international stewardship organizations and propose individual and shared actions that foster environmental stewardship.
ENS 1030: CONSUMERISM - Students develop an understanding of consumerism and consumption rates, their complexity and how they impact sustainable development.
HSS 1080: LEADERSHIP FUNDAMENTALS 1 - Students explore basic principles of leadership and evaluate their personal leadership characteristics and qualities. Students develop a plan for their personal growth as a member of a leadership team and examine the various behaviors, skills and roles of team members that contribute to team effectiveness.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
At Camp -
Over the course of seven days the students will have the opportunity to:
1. Experience a variety of outdoor pursuits activities in a safe and supportive environment;
2. Experience leadership from both a leader and group member perspective;
3. Experience group development and team building concepts;
4. Develop an understanding of care and protection of the environment;
5. Develop proficiency in a variety of outdoor skills including flat and whitewater canoeing, hiking and wilderness living;
6. Develop an interdependent relationship between themselves and other individuals and between themselves and the environment.

August 13: River Tripping Experience –North Saskatchewan River

August 16: Back-country biking and time to prepare for the Debrief
August 17: Debrief/Tie up loose ends
August 18: Goodbyes and departure
At School - Classes will run 4:00 PM - 6:30PM @ St. Joseph Catholic High School
We will spend these classes completing the required courses for student to achieve 7 High School Credits.
